Gryphon Quality Review:
NEVEN TABLES
High-Contrast Sport Style With a Specific Sweet Spot
(Series: Independent Eyewear Reviews – Gryphon Quality)
Overview
The Neven Tables sunglasses are not a casual accessory — they’re a purpose-built, high-contrast lens with a bold, athletic aesthetic. Where the Neven AMAR leans lifestyle and relaxed sophistication, the Tables aim squarely at active, sunny conditions where glare reduction and contrast matter more than versatility.
If you haven’t read it yet, I recommend starting with the Neven AMAR review for context on Neven’s design philosophy and lens approach →

This review follows the same criteria, order, and scoring system so you can compare both models cleanly.
First Impressions & Build Quality
The first thing you notice about the Tables is how solid they feel without looking heavy.
Despite their aggressive silhouette and shield-style lens, they’re surprisingly lightweight in hand. The frame feels durable, stiff, and confidence-inspiring, yet once worn, that initial sense of weight fades quickly.
These are well-made sunglasses — the kind you expect to survive active use like golf, cycling, or long days outdoors. The build quality exceeds what their sleek appearance suggests.
Comparison note:
The AMAR gives off a refined, heritage feel. The Tables feel modern, technical, and athletic. Two very different personalities from the same brand.
Lens & Optical Performance
This is where the Tables truly separate themselves.
The Tables lenses are highly polarized, noticeably more so than the AMAR. That polarization does an excellent job of cutting glare and taming bright winter sun — especially reflective environments like snow, ice, or open terrain.
There is:
No eye strain
Very good sharpness (not clinical-crisp, but clearly sharper than no glasses and sharper than AMAR)
Strong contrast without extreme color distortion
That said, the polarization comes with a tradeoff.
Screens & Distortion
Digital screens — backup cameras, infotainment systems, phones — can show noticeable distortion, sometimes bordering on uncomfortable. Tilting your head changes the effect, which confirms it’s polarization-related.
You don’t have to remove the glasses to see a screen, but it’s close.
This aligns with broader industry feedback on high-polarization sport lenses

Tint & Color Perception
The Tables lens reads as violet/blue-green in tone.
Color perception is slightly altered, but not dramatically. Reds and greens stay recognizable, and contrast is enhanced rather than washed out. This makes them particularly effective in bright but not scorching conditions.
They are not designed for:
Equatorial beach sun
Long driving at dusk (they make the world too dark)
They shine instead in:
Clear winter days
Northern latitudes
Midday sun between roughly 10am–3pm (Alberta winters are ideal)
Comfort & Fit
Comfort is a standout.
No pressure points
No pinching at the nose or ears
Secure without feeling tight
They hold position while walking and light movement
The best way to describe it:
They feel like an extension of your face, blending into your skull rather than sitting on it.
They remain relaxed, never squeezing — something many “sport” frames fail at.
Activity Suitability
These are sport-lifestyle sunglasses, not extreme-sport gear.
Well-suited for:
Golf
Ski slopes
Biking
Casual outdoor activity
Sunny social outings with an edge
Less suited for:
Running
Horseback riding
Situations requiring constant screen visibility
Visually, they signal active, fit, flashy confidence.
They would feel out of place:
At a formal dinner
On a quiet family picnic with grandparents
In conservative social settings
If AMAR is a cigarillo at a ranch lodge,
Tables are a bright winter day on the slopes.
Style Identity
The Tables are unapologetic.
They’re bold, modern, and athletic — designed for people who want their eyewear noticed. This aligns with trends seen in sport-lifestyle eyewear from brands like Oakley and Smith, where performance optics meet fashion-forward silhouettes

By contrast, the AMAR remains more timeless and versatile

Drawbacks
No review is complete without balance.
Cons:
Screen distortion from strong polarization
Too dark for dusk driving
Not universally versatile stylistically
Narrower use-case than AMAR
These aren’t flaws — they’re design decisions.
Scoring (Gryphon Quality System)
Using the same criteria as the AMAR review:
Category Score
Build Quality 9.0 / 10
Lens Performance 8.6 / 10
Comfort & Fit 9.2 / 10
Versatility 7.6 / 10
Style Identity 8.8 / 10
Overall Score: 8.6 / 10
Final Verdict
The Neven Tables are not an everyday, do-everything pair — and that’s exactly why they work.
They are:
Confident
Purpose-driven
Comfortable
Visually striking
If you want one pair to rule all situations, look at the AMAR.
If you want a high-contrast, sport-forward experience that feels alive on sunny days, the Tables deliver.
